Recalls and Lawsuits – Ford’s 360 Degree Camera Problems

Owners are unhappy with an otherwise extremely useful feature on Ford and Lincoln models.

Despite being recalled, Ford has not fixed the problem with 360-degree cameras according to several owners who filed class action lawsuits against the US car maker.

What are the Symptoms of the Faulty 360-degree camera?

The backup camera screen shows nothing, appearing black or blue, with the 360-degree camera experiencing glitches.

These affect the following models:

  • 2020-2023 Ford Explorer
  • 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator
  • 2020-2023 Lincoln Corsair

History of the Recall and Lawsuit

The class action claims Ford knew about the issues and has done so since February 2021. This is after there have been more than 3,400 warranty claims for 360-degree cameras since April 2018 and August this year, even causing two crashes.

The vehicles affected were recalled by Ford, as per usual procedure, and fixed in September 2021 and again in January 2023 after a further 17 collisions. The third claim followed a few months later after 422,000 models were affected, including the Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and Lincoln Corsair. Finally, in September 2023 the fourth and final claim to date included Lincoln Aviator, Lincoln Navigator, Ford Transit, and Ford Bronco vehicles all having faulty 360-degree cameras.

What Ford Claim is the Issue with 360 Degree Camera

Ford claims, in the most recent recall, that the 360-degree cameras had image processing module software issues. Ford also claims the 360-degree camera screens may turn black or blue due to poor wiring retention and the camera’s hardware.

Experiencing Camera Problems? How You Can Take Back Control

Due to the recall claims in this case, many owners are facing the same issue with their 360-degree cameras. While many repairs and fixes have been initiated, owners continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by Ford. These problems have the potential to escalate into further legal action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
