Honda Recalls Their Civic Due To Steering Rack Issue

A major car manufacturer again has been left with no choice but to recall almost 200,000 vehicles due to a defect. Honda is the culprit in this case, thanks to a faulty part in their power steering systems. But there’s so much more to this story.

Which Honda Models Are Affected?

Over 176,000 vehicles are involved in Honda’s latest recall. This has affected both the Civic sedans and hatchbacks as recently as the 2024 model year. Honda had previously recalled a power steering rack issue meaning the entire rack had to be replaced. The issue was the replacement rack had not been calibrated correctly.

What makes this recall even worse is that Honda Civic owners who have a 2022 through 2024 model should check to see if their vehicle needs to be fixed, even if they hadn’t been in for a power steering rack recall previously. As the issue could may not have been fixed before they owned their vehicle.

What Are the Faulty Steering Rack Symptoms?

Honda has provided the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with a document illustrating that drivers may hear an unusual noise coming from the front tires when turning. This causes excessive wear on the tires and requires frequent replacement – unnecessary costs to the owner.

Honda will inspect and repair the steering rack if it is deemed necessary, as well as replace the worn or damaged tires. Plus, it may be possible to claim back the owner’s expenses if they have already paid for the repair.

Honda and How You Can Take Back Control

While recalls have been communicated to them, many owners continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further legal action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
