Lamborghini has initiated a recall campaign for the Urus SUV, impacting models from 2019 to 2024. The recall specifically addresses a defect related to the carbon engine hood of the Urus S and Urus Performante models.
History Behind The Recall
The automaker discovered that insufficient deformation of the rivet studs securing the hood latch striker could lead to small gaps forming between the hood and front bumper at high speeds. If left unaddressed, this could result in the hood detaching from the vehicle, creating a significant safety hazard.
The problem first came to light in August 2023, when Lamborghini received two warranty claims from Europe regarding the misalignment of the Urus’s hood and fender. This prompted an investigation, but no additional cases were found.
However, in February 2024, a Urus in Indonesia experienced a complete hood detachment at high speed, leading Lamborghini to launch another investigation and ultimately identify the defective rivet studs as the cause.
Which Models Are Affected?
The recall affects 2,133 vehicles, specifically targeting the following models:
- 2019-2024 Lamborghini Urus S
- 2019-2024 Lamborghini Urus Performante
Lamborghini believes that only 2% of these vehicles are affected by the defect, but all owners of these models must take the issue seriously and have their vehicles inspected.
The Lamborghini Urus is a high-performance luxury SUV. Equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, it delivers exhilarating speed and handling. The Urus stands out for its bold design, advanced technology, and unparalleled driving experience, and was one of the first supercar brands to release an SUV to the market.
What Owners Need to Do Next
Lamborghini will begin notifying affected customers in late June and early July 2024. Owners are encouraged to contact their local Lamborghini dealer to schedule an inspection. Depending on the results, the dealer may repair the hood, install a striker support plate, or perform both actions to resolve the issue.
It’s important to note that continuing to drive these vehicles at high speeds without addressing the defect could result in the hood detaching from the vehicle, posing a severe safety risk to both the driver and others on the road.
How Lamborghini Owners Can Take Back Control
While recalls have been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, just like this – underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
