Ford Trailer Brake Recall Repeated for Over 10,000 Trucks and SUVs

History Behind the Recall

Ford is once again under scrutiny after discovering that a 2022 trailer brake recall affecting nearly 400,000 trucks and SUVs may not have been fully resolved. This time, 10,627 vehicles that were previously marked as repaired are being recalled again, as some were mistakenly logged as fixed without actually receiving the proper software update.

The original recall involved a trailer brake control issue where the trailer brakes wouldn’t activate as expected, particularly concerning for vehicles equipped with tow packages. Ford’s recent quality audit revealed that the dealer software update tool sometimes failed to upload the fix, despite flagging the vehicle as complete.

This marks yet another quality challenge for Ford in 2025, as the company begins repeating several prior recalls for similar software-related issues.

Which Models Are Affected?

This recall affects select units of the following models:

  • 2021–2022 Ford F-150
  • 2022 Ford Maverick
  • 2022 Ford Expedition
  • 2022 Lincoln Navigator
  • 2022 Ford Super Duty trucks

Not all vehicles from these model years are affected. Only those that were part of the original recall may not have been properly updated.

What Owners Need to Do Next

Owners of affected vehicles will be asked to return to the dealership, where technicians will reinstall the original software update. This time, Ford says they have implemented a new process that ensures the update is fully verified before the vehicle is returned.

All recall-related repairs will be conducted free of charge. Ford owners can call 1-866-436-7332 or visit nhtsa.gov and enter their VIN to check recall status.

How Ford Owners Can Take Back Control

While these recalls have been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
