Ford Recalls Nearly 300,000 F-Series Trucks Over Defective Fuel Pumps

Ford has announced a major recall of 295,449 diesel-engine trucks due to concerns over defective fuel pumps that could cause power loss and increase the risk of a crash. This recall, issued in collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), highlights a significant safety issue for several popular Ford truck models.

History Behind the Recall

The issue stems from biodiesel deposits forming on the high-pressure fuel pump drivetrain roller components. These deposits can cause the fuel pump to fail, resulting in symptoms such as extended cranking during start-up, reduced engine power, a check engine light (CEL), or unusual noises.

Although Ford has not reported any accidents, injuries, or fires related to this defect, the potential safety risk necessitated the recall.

Which Models Are Affected?

The recall applies to the following diesel-engine truck models:

  • 2020-2022 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600
  • 2021-2022 Ford F-650, F-750

Ford has identified that these vehicles may experience fuel pump failures, increasing the risk of power loss while driving.

What Owners Need to Do Next

Ford will address the issue by updating the powertrain control module software free of charge.

Owners of affected vehicles can expect to receive notification letters starting January 13, 2025. Concerned owners can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing Ford recall number 24S78. Additionally, vehicle owners can check the status of their recall by visiting www.nhtsa.gov or calling the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

Other Recalls Issued by Ford

On the same day, Ford issued three additional recalls, including:

  • Over 20,000 Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair SUVs (2020-2024) for battery failure concerns. Letters will be mailed from January 20, 2025.
  • Nearly 50,000 Lincoln Nautilus SUVs (2024-2025) for faulty power window systems. Notifications begin January 13, 2025.
  • Over 30,000 Ford Flex, Fiesta, and Lincoln MKT models (2019) for rear-view camera issues. Notices will be sent from February 2-7, 2025.

How Ford Owners Can Take Back Control

While recalls have been communicated to owners, many continue to be unhappy with the solutions provided by automakers. These problems have the potential to escalate into further action, just like this—underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
