Latest Jeep Recall Affects 4xe Owners – All You Need To Know

Another recall announced, but this time it’s for America’s most popular plug-in hybrid Jeep model. The Wrangler 4xe PHEV models are subject to fire risks from their onboard battery. It’s important to point out that owners are not advised to charge the battery and park away from other vehicles until the issue has been resolved.

Battery Issue

According to Jeep, the internal 17.3kWh High Voltage battery could cause a fire. This increased risk could cause injury to occupants and those near the vehicle. Therefore it is advised that owners park their vehicles outside and far away from other vehicles whenever possible. Until now, eight instances have occurred where fires have broken out, and six of these occurred whilst charging.

Jeep Models Affected

Over 42,000 Wrangler 4xe models are affected by this recall and the majority are within the US. Luckily for owners, according to Jeep, just 1% of vehicles pose a fire risk. Jeep will install new software onto the vehicle which detects battery faults. If the battery is deemed faulty, then Jeep will need to replace the whole battery.

The Jeep recall site is the best way to work out if your specific model is affected, input your VIN here to check. Unfortunately, as of December 3, 2023, Jeep has announced that the software is not available yet to dealers. You as a consumer can sign up to receive updates on when the recall will begin, but as yet there is no further information.

How Jeep Owners Can Take Back Control

While recalls have been announced, Jeep has yet to initiate the process and many owners continue to be unhappy with the potential fire risk associated with the battery fault. These problems have the potential to escalate into further legal action, just like this – underlining the importance of protecting consumer rights.
